Code of Conduct : Officials & Volunteers Download

Information

One member of every family who has a swimmer in any of the squads is encouraged to undertake STO (Swimming Technical Official) training if they are not already involved in volunteering with the Club in another way. This can be a parent or sibling age 14+. It only takes one Referee and 2 Linesmen to manage a football match; it takes 19 timekeepers, 8 judges, an announcer, recorder, convener, marshal/s, and referee plus starter to run a 6-lane swimming gala. Without you, the Club would not be able to maintain a competition programme. Susan Coe for more information and to fill in your application.

Courses

Periodically courses will be run for new time keepers as well as existing timekeepers/Judges who can now progress to Judge 1/ Starter, and for those who wish to become Recorders.

More information will be posted on the club notice board or here when a course is available.

Calling all timekeepers and officials!

If you are a timekeeper,  it is now time on to begin learning to be a Judge. For Judge 1, the training is poolside and practical, with a couple of seminars. When you have completed the poolside duties, you can become a licensed British Swimming Technical Official and can be a Judge of Turns at events. As it is often the number of Judges that decides whether a meet can be accredited or not, this is a huge help to the meet organisers and to your own swimmers.

If you don't want to Judge quite yet, you should become a recorder. These are the folks who sit at the desk, check all the times (you will have seen them at our own galas) and help sort out finals and award winners. If you think this if for you, again, you need to apply for training. Like Judges, Recorders are always needed, especially at our own Club galas. If you would like to go on to sit the Referee exam in the future, Scottish Swimming ask that you have passed the Recorder exam in addition to Judge and Starter training.

If you want to find out more about this, or any other aspect of helping with Perth City, you can contact Moraig Macdonald, who is the Club Volunteer Co-ordinator and can answer any questions you have. You can find her at the following times: Perth Leisure Pool Mondays 8pm; Tuesdays at 19.20; Thursdays at 8pm; Sundays at 9.30am. Moraig will also be at the Friday club table from 18.30-19.30 on the following dates: Feb 25th; April 1st; April 22nd; May 13th; June 10th. To contact by email, copy and paste the following address moraig@cityswimclub.com , adding the word perth after @ before you send.

You can also look at the information on STO training on the Scottish Swimming website.

The judges workbook is available Here. You can download the Recorders notes Here and application form Here.  The closing date for this is March 31st, so please don't delay. Don't forget, the Club will pay the training fees for you, and will pay to register you as member of British Swimming. So don't put it off, do it today!
