Perth City Swim Club(PCSC)is a competitive swimming club, affiliated to the Scottish Amateur Swimming Association. In previous years, the Club has had two teams in the Midland District Leagues and has had consistent success over the years. Swimmers compete at a number of local, district and national events at pools as far apart as Inverness, Dunoon, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
With young swimmers, our aim is to develop good technique, meeting all of the technical demands of the sport, gradually building up stamina and strength as they develop. Associated skills such as diving and turns are built along the way so that swimmers can quickly enter for the local competitions, and be given the opportunity to swim for the club in a league team. PCSC has produced international class swimmers in the past, and we are always striving to produce the next generation of top class athletes.
Along the way we measure the progress of our swimmers at District level, in National Schools and National Championships, and in competitions against the other 'home nations'. Our swimmers appear on the ASA Ranking tables, some of them are ranked no.1 in Scotland, as well as having high UK rankings.
History
Perth City Swim Club started out over 100 years ago as Pullar's amateur swimming club - and a number of the club trophies date back to the early 1900s.
Most of our training is done at the 5 lane, 25m Perth Leisure Pool run by Perth and Kinross Leisure Ltd.
Situated next to Dewar's ice rink, just off the Glasgow Road, the pool boasts an excellent leisure pool with flumes and rapids which is ideal if younger brothers and sisters want a swim while older siblings are training. There is also a well equipped gym for mum and dad to have a workout!
The squads also train at Kinross pool once a week, and from time to time special sessions are arranged at the National Swimming Centre 50m pool at Stirling University.
Jim Hitchen
Jim Hitchen was a past president of Perth City Swim club and a stalwart supporter of the club for many years. He made a huge contribution to swimming and sport in general, both in Tayside and at a national level.
Jim died in February 2010 and is very much missed by everyone at Perth City both young and old. It is an objective of PCSC to maintain the high standards that Jim set for the club and by following his example the club will continue to be an important part of the local community and help youngsters strive to achieve their potential in life and support them as they develop and learn about themselves.
